Who is Julian Stubbs?
Brand Communications Strategist, International Marketing Consultant, Head of Brand Strategy Dowell Stubbs, Part of Gyro International.
With a strong history in international brand development, Julian Stubbs is a man with a passion for marketing and developing brand strategy.
Julian has worked extensively with the life sciences, healthcare, place marketing and general industry. A writer, thinker, consultant, and strategist, Julian was the founding partner and CEO of Dowell Stubbs - a Stockholm-based international brand communications agency.
In June 2007 Gyro International bought the company and Julian took on the role of heading up Gyro’s international branding.
Julian lives in Stockholm, Sweden, but spends a good deal of his time traveling. In a typical year, he travels about 120 days outside of Sweden – working with clients in North America, Europe and Asia.
Not really Swedish
As an English national living in Sweden, Julian Stubbs likes to point out all the ways he is not Swedish. And that works for him … as he is able to offer clients an international perspective in brand planning and marketing communications strategy. Always one to bring a new approach to any problem, Julian gets a natural high from developing a client’s brand identity.
Brand planning expertise
In addition to client branding work and brand planning workshops, Julian Stubbs lectures and gives seminars at a number of academic and industry venues each year, and contributes to numerous publications, as well as several industry blogs. Having jumped the fence from agency to the client side more than once, he is a firm advocate of the experience.
From rock-n-roll to B-2-B
Julian Stubbs offers his clients over 20 years of marketing and branding experience in “high involvement” industries including life sciences, biotechnology, health care, manufacturing and place marketing.
While his focus today is mainly on business-to-business communications, Julian is no stranger to the consumer market. He got his start in advertising for multinational brands such as Beefeater Gin, HMV Record Stores and Courvoisier. Itʼs a bit of a rock-and-roll history, he likes to say.
Recent client work
Julian’s recent work includes developing the branding of Stockholm (Stockholm, the capital of Scandinavia), Stockholm Arlanda Airport, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Science magazine. He has also developed brand identities for companies going through major brand changes including Coveright (Casco Papers), and Amersham Biosciences (GE Healthcare) and Affymetrix.
Personal passions
Besides brand planning and marketing communications strategy, Julian’s passions and hobbies include first and foremost his family, as well as history, writing, cooking, visiting the gym (at 6:30 a.m. every day!), tennis, and the occasional game of chess.
